One injured in deputy-involved shooting in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — One suspect was injured in a deputy-involved shooting Tuesday in Columbia County.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened on SW Pinemount Road near SW Mayo Road. Deputies were called to the address due to a landlord-tenant dispute. When the deputies arrived and approached the suspect, Charles Schoener, 72, was sitting in his vehicle. He then started the vehicle and accelerated rapidly toward the deputies and citizens that were standing in the yard.

Corporal Randy Harrison, a 17-year veteran, shot Schoener in the upper torso with his service revolver. Schoener was flown to Shands Hospital in Gainesville for treatment, where he is listed in stable condition. No one else was hurt.

The deputy was placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted by the sheriff's office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and State Attorney's Office.
