JSO: 2-year-old boy in critical condition after shooting

Tuesday update: A 2-year-old boy is recovering after he was critically hurt in an accidental shooting in Jacksonville.

Officers said Bradley Schwarzer had life-threatening injuries after the shooting Monday night on W. 71st Street.

A Jacksonville Sheriff's Office report says Bradley's mother told them he had been shot and that she was administering CPR on the floor.

A man who says he’s a close family friend said Bradley’s second surgery went well and they expect a full recovery.

Action News Jax is working to learn more about the boy's condition.

JSO said this is being investigated as an accidental shooting.

The boy was shot just one day after a 14-year-old girl was accidentally shot by her mother.

JSO said the mother told police she was cleaning her gun when it went off in her Jacksonville Heights home Sunday evening.

JSO asked gun owners to make sure their firearms are stored and secured properly and to handle firearms with care.

Original story: The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is at the scene of a home in the North Shore neighborhood where a 2-year-old was shot Monday evening.

JSO said the 2-year-old has life threatening injuries and are investigating how the child was shot.

A parent was home according to officials, and the Department of Children and Family has been called.

JSO said they will talk with the parent after the boy gets done in surgery.
