Toys R Us to close 180 stores, including Jacksonville area store

Toys R Us is planning to close 180 stores nationwide, including some in the Pittsburgh area, in an attempt to restructure the company and emerge from bankruptcy protection, CNBC reports.

The closures, which include Babies R Us and Toys R Us stores, still need court approval, and the list shows the company is planning to close the Babies R Us store in Orange Park on Argyle Forest Boulevard.

A total of 11 stores will shut their doors in Florida starting in February.

CEO Dave Brandon posted a note on the company’s website discussing the restructuring, an effort to emerge from bankruptcy proceedings.

Consumer Advisor Clark Howard says customers should make returns and use gift cards as soon as possible, because of this uncertainty surrounding the company’s finances.

According to the company shoppers can expect store closing sales beginning in early February, with most designated locations shutting their doors in mid-April.

Shoppers say this is proof online retailers are taking over the market.

Tabita Garcia tells Action News Jax, “He loves to touch things and hold things and then that’s how he picks his toys. Online you can’t really touch and feel and the sensory is just not there.”
