JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Neighbors on Jacksonville’s Westside said a tree downed during Hurricane Irma in 2017 has yet to be removed from a ditch.
The tree is now covered in weeds and vines in a drainage ditch off Tiny Tim Lane.

80-year-old Ed Carnes says he’s worried the tree is going to cause flooding if there’s a major storm.
Carnes said he’s reached out to the City of Jacksonville three times since last fall to get it removed.
“I’d like to have it done before hurricane season really heats up,” Carnes said.

After emailing Mayor Lenny Curry directly, he said crews with the Public Works Department came out to inspect the tree last week.
The City says the ditch is scheduled to be cleared and regraded “hopefully” within the next few months, according to an email to Carnes.
Action News Jax found there are more than 1,700 open CARE tickets assigned to the Public Works Department for tree issues and drainage cleaning alone.
Four of the tickets are from 2017 and 41 are from 2018. A total of 1,721 tickets are for 2019.
