Tropical Storm Isaias: Florida activates price gouging hotline

Florida activates Price Gouging Hotline

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Attorney General James Uthmeier has activated Florida’s price gouging hotline following the state of emergency declaration issued Tuesday ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias.

This comes as officials track the potential impacts of Isaias, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane later this week and impact the Panhandle.

During a storm-related state of emergency, Florida law prohibits excessive price increases on essential items, including food, gasoline, lumber, and water.

“If you see or suspect an unconscionable increase in the price of essential commodities, report it to our office here,” Uthmeier wrote on X.

Anyone who suspects price gouging can report it to the Florida Attorney General’s Office by visiting MyFloridaLegal.com or calling 1 (866) 9NO-SCAM.
