ATHENS, Ga. — Retired UGA mascot Uga IX, also known as "Russ," passed away in his sleep early Monday morning.
Russ served as mascot for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2012 to 2015.
He was formerly an interim mascot, working for a total of 25 games after Uga VII and Uga VIII passed away.
Russ was officially promoted as Uga IX prior to the Florida Atlantic game on Sept. 15, 2012.
He compiled an overall record of 44-19.
His successor, “Que” took on the role of Uga X at the Georiga Southern game on Nov. 21.
It's with a heavy heart that we announce that Uga IX, affectionately known as Russ, has passed away. He was 11 years old and retired earlier this year. #DGD
