The pictures, in the form of slides, were from Apollo 7 – the first mission in the United States to carry a crew into space.
When it was completed, the crews splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean and McIntyre’s father was there taking pictures of the astronauts as they were recovered by the USS Essex.

For more than 50 years, McIntyre kept those pictures safe. “You don’t know how precious they are until they’re gone,” she said.
McIntyre said a detective with the Atlantic Beach Police Department told her someone in her neighborhood took them.
“It makes you scared that someone could come in anytime and just take whatever they want,” she said.
McIntyre said charges are pending.
