Video appears to show a worker at Jacksonville butcher shop using a blowtorch to cook chickens

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax obtained video of what appeared to be a worker at a local butcher shop using a blowtorch to cook chickens behind the business.

Halal Fresh Meats on Baymeadows Road looks like any other butcher shop, but there's a different kind of business in the back.

The video sent by a concerned viewer shows a worker cooking numerous whole chickens on a makeshift device in the back by the parking lot, next to dirty pallets and poles.

When Action News Jax asked the butcher shop owner about the video, they said that the chickens are for themselves, friends and family.

Halal Fresh Meats was last inspected in April 2018 and met inspection requirements, but it was cited for utensils and equipment not being cleaned.

Action News Jax reporter Ben Becker reached out to the state and they said they have never heard of any business cooking chickens in a parking lot and that "there has to be something wrong with that."
