VyStar members debate leaving as credit union works through mobile app issues

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — VyStar users now have access to online banking through a web browser where they can make internal transfers and view transaction details. The credit union is also refunding fees that it has been charging members since May 14.

However, the company’s app is still having issues.

Their members, like small business owner Daisy Dietrich, said this is impacting every part of their business.

“It has been very difficult to get anything done. And even more so when you go to any VyStar location, the lines are extraordinarily long.”

Online banking has been a challenge for VyStar users for nearly a month.

“As not only a business owner but a single mom, I don’t always have time to wait in line for these long periods of time.”

Daisy Dietrich’s waxing business took a hit during the freeze.

“The lack of access to transferring funds recently made it so that I lost out on a large purchase of bulk wax.”

Her business stays busy, which means now she has to spend more to buy smaller amounts of wax. It’s incidents like these that have some already deciding to leave the credit union.

“I’m thinking about switching banks for business accounts,” another user told us.

Action News Jax reached out to VyStar to ask how many users had withdrawn their membership since March. So far, they have not given those numbers.

Other local credit unions have seen a difference. A Community First spokesperson says they don’t keep track of the numbers, but they have seen a significant increase in new members.

Navy Federal says they cannot share their member numbers, though I spoke to VyStar customers who say Navy Federal would be their choice.

Local business owners say they need a bank that’s reliable.

“If they can’t get it together in the next short amount of time I’ll be forced to change financial institutions.”
