Mother killed, daughter grazed by bullet in St. Marys incident

ST. MARYS, Ga. — A mother was killed and her baby was injured Monday night at the Cumberland Oaks Apartments in St. Marys. Police are also searching for a person of interest in connection with the deadly shooting.

St. Marys Police were called to the complex just after 7 p.m. Police said the woman was shot and the baby sustained some sort of injury.

The woman was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville and the 18-month-old baby was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The baby has since been released from the hospital, according to St. Marys Police Lt. Shannon Brock.

The woman who was shot has died as a result of her injuries.

The victim was identified by family as Jimeshia Gordon. The victim's family told Action News Jax her daughter, Kamela, was grazed by a bullet. Action News Jax is working to confirm the details with authorities.

Brock identified the person of interest as 31-year-old Roney Wilson.

Brock said Wilson is considered armed and dangerous, and is also considered to be a threat to law enforcement. 

Police are still working on Wilson's relationship with the victim. Wilson lives in St. Marys and is known to frequent the Nassau County area.

Brock said Wilson is known to police and has had violent confrontations.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.
