Woman dead after hit while walking across Atlantic Blvd, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that a woman is dead after she was hit trying to cross Atlantic Boulevard Sunday night.

According to detectives, at approximately 10 p.m., a woman attempting to walk across Atlantic Boulevard was struck by a Chrysler 300 headed eastbound. The woman was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.

This marks the 136th fatality in Duval County this year and the 34th involving a pedestrian.

Eastbound Atlantic Boulevard was closed from White Avenue to Ridgewood Plaza into the morning hours, but it is back open now.
