Woman finds spiders in a bag of grapes purchased from a Waycross Walmart

WAYCROSS, Ga. — Kelly Bennett says she bought a bag of grapes at the Walmart in Waycross on Memorial Drive.

She says she took the bag of grapes to her sons football game, and when she went to open them, she saw something strange.

“I said mom, there’s a spider web in these grapes!” said Bennett.

Bennett said her mother took the grapes with the spider web on them and threw them out, but the kept the remaining grapes.

She said the next day her mom looked at the bag of grapes again and called her into the kitchen.

There was a black spider in the grape bag.

“I said, ‘Oh no, momma!’ and I ran out of the kitchen,” said Bennett.

She said she and her mom took the bag with the spider in it back to Walmart.

She said they did give her a refund for the grapes, but sprayed the bag with spray before they took it away.

Bennett said she wanted to share her story to let other people be on the lookout for spiders before they reach in their bags of grapes.

“I'm just glad my son didn’t put his hand in that bag, because he loves grapes,” said Bennett.

Bennett believes the spider was a black widow spider.

We sent the pictures of the spider to the UF Duval County Extension Office but they were unable to identify the type of spider based off the picture. The lab recommended to Ms. Bennett send the spider into the lab in order for it to be identified.
