Women targeted at Jacksonville gym: Valuables stolen, cars burglarized at Bailey's gym

Women were targeted at a Jacksonville gym and the victims said they think they were being watched.

Several vehicles were broken into while women said they were inside Bailey’s gym working out.

“I was in there for thirty minutes max and I came out and my window was smashed,” victim, Sarah Lyons.

Action News Jax reported in June that JSO put out a crime alert about an increase in car break-ins at gyms and fitness centers.

“I’m on edge right now going to the gym because I’m worried my car will be broken into again,” victim, Michelle Pina said.

Jessica Hester said she was inside working out when an employee told her to check on her car.

“I saw glass everywhere on the ground and my window completely out,” Hester said.

Two of the victims admit they left their purses in their cars, but said they were out of sight.

“I took precautions to hide it under my seat, but that still didn’t save me,” Hester said.

The women said the thieves went to Target at the Town Center and maxed out their credit cards before they were able to cancel them.

“They knew what they were doing. They had a plan together,” Hester said.

The police report states that there aren’t any surveillance cameras that reach the gym’s parking lot, the victims said they think that could have prevented a crime like this.

“I’m probably going to stop going to that gym. I don’t plan on going back,” Lyons said.

The women said that detectives called them and said they saw a woman inside the Target on surveillance video using their stolen credit cards.

Action News Jax called and emailed Bailey’s gym for a statement about any changes in security, but have not heard back yet.
