NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A Fernandina Beach woman sat in a hot car to create awareness about the dangers of leaving children and dogs in hot cars.
In a July 9 Facebook post, Chelsi Bedell asked her friends to share a video of her sitting in a hot car and talking about recent stories of parents leaving children in sweltering vehicles.
“We have got to wake up and realize it’s not OK,” Bedell said.
Bedell mentioned in the video that she was inspired by Terry Williams, a North Carolina man who started the hot car challenge on June 20. Williams' video has over 1 million views.
“When you sit in this car and you realize how hot it is, it will make everybody think twice,” Bedell said.
Bedell’s Facebook post has over 10,000 shares.
