JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The guided-missile frigate USS Simpson (FFG 56) returned to Naval Station Mayport for the final time Sunday.
More than 200 sailors returned home after successfully completing a seven-month deployment conducting theater security exercises.
On its final voyage, USS Simpson provided more than 1,500 flight hours in support of national tasking.
USS Simpson is the last Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate stationed at Mayport and is one of only four frigates remaining in the US Navy.
In September, Simpson will be decommissioned. Only three frigates will remain in service.
