Officials: Woman arrested after reporting bomb threat at UF in effort to 'leave work'

Jessica Ward

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Police said a woman was arrested in connection with a bomb threat on the University of Florida’s campus.

University police said Jessica Ward, 24, made that threat last week at UF’s engineering building.

When asked why she did it, police said Ward admitted that she wrote the threat in an effort to “leave work” at the indicated time of the threat in order to obtain some “me” time.

Ward was arrested Tuesday by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said Ward is not a faculty, student or staff member of the university, but an employee of Aramark and worked at the Java Hut Coffee Kiosk located within the New Engineering Building on the day of the incident.
