One child killed, another injured in shooting in Cedar Hills area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 3/6 at 6:30 p.m.: At approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening, JSO Patrol Officers responded to 6000 103rd St. in reference to a person shot.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a child suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

JFRD transported the boy to a local hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.

At the same time, officers were responding to a second shooting at 5000 Moret Dr. E., which is near the first incident.

A second child was located with a gunshot wound. JFRD transported the second boy to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The JSO Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit are conducting an ongoing investigation. Detectives believe a group of individuals were in the parking lot at 6000 103rd St. when an altercation occurred leading to gunfire that hit the two boys.

JSO is canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video in order to further determine what occurred and to develop suspect information.

UPDATE 10:19 p.m.: Police appear to be inspecting a dark-colored sedan in the area of 103rd Street and Moret Drive East.

There is a heavy police presence in the area of Moret Drive East and 103rd Street on Saturday evening.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office confirmed with Action News Jax that a police investigation is underway.
