The state fire marshal is investigating a fire at a vacant building on Atlantic Boulevard near Gay Avenue.
Firefighters noticed the building engulfed in flames around 2 a.m. Sunday.
As crews worked to put out that fire, a driver sped through the closed off area, putting those men in danger.
"We heard him hit the hose and the first thing that went through my mind was I hope he didn't hit one of my men or one of the police officers" said Jack Griggs from the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department.
Police tried to chase that driver but he got away.
