(International UFO Museum & Research Center/Facebook) - On Wednesday, March 23, 2016, police found what appeared to be the remnants of a smashed model flying saucer stolen from the UFO Museum in Roswell, New Mexico, over the weekend.

ROSWELL, N.M. — A flying saucer stolen from the UFO Museum in downtown Roswell, New Mexico, was recovered in pieces Wednesday, according to police.

The saucer is normally mounted to the front of the museum but was knocked down and damaged in storms over winter. It was temporarily being stored behind the museum, where thieves took notice.

On Saturday, a museum employee noticed the saucer had vanished, the Roswell Police Department said.

Authorities found what appeared to be the broken remnants of the saucer, which was made of fiberglass, metal and stainless steel, in a ditch west of town Wednesday afternoon.
