Recall alert: Audi recalls 75K cars, SUVs because of fuel leak fire risk

Audi, the luxury brand owned by Volkswagen, has issued a recall that affects almost 75,000 cars and sport utility vehicles after reports of fuel leaks in the engine that could lead to fires.

The recall affects A6, A7 and Q7 SUVs from 2016 to 2018 model years. A8 sedans from 2015 through 2018 are also covered by the recall, The Associated Press reported.

In all, 74,881 vehicles are under the recall, according to Consumer Reports.

The company said parts of the fuel injection system can leak. If the fuel hits an ignition source, it can spark a fire. No fires or injuries have been documented.

The leaks could come from variations in welding from the part's supplier. Drivers may smell fuel if the system is leaking, according to Consumer Reports.

Audi owners will be told via mail in mid-March if their cars are covered by the recall. Dealers will replace both the left and right fuel injector rails at no cost to the car owners, the AP reported.
