Oklahoma City point guard Russell Westbrook broke Oscar Robertson's NBA record of 41 triple-doubles in a single season Sunday. Robertson held the record since the 1961-62 season.
Westbrook secured his 42nd triple-double of the season in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game against the Denver Nuggets.
Robertson said he hoped Westbrook breaks his record and believes Russell deserves this year's NBA MVP award.
With the triple-double, Westbrook also surpassed Wilt Chamberlain on the NBA career triple-doubles list. He claimed sole possession of third place with 79 total.
