According to the Pittsburgh Police Department, officials said they received multiple ShotSpotter alerts just after 12:30 a.m. EDT in the North Side area of the city, WPXI-TV reported. When police arrived, more shots were being fired and several youths were fleeing from an Airbnb property, the television station reported.

Update 10:31 p.m. EDT April 17: The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victims in Sunday morning’s shooting as Jaiden Brown and Mathew Steffy-Ross, both 17, WPXI-TV reported.

Investigators have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and no information regarding potential suspects has been released, the TV station reported.

Update 1:55 p.m. EDT April 17: Police initially said that 11 people were shot, but authorities revised the figures at a news conference Sunday afternoon, WPXI-TV reported. The number of people shot is now 10, with fatalities remaining at two. Five other people were injured while trying to flee from the gunfire, police said.

Original report: In a news release, Pittsburgh police said there were at least 11 gunshot victims. Two of the victims, two male juveniles, were pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said.

Police said in an initial investigation that a large party, with as many as 200 people in attendance, was being held at the Airbnb. Many of the attendees were underage, police said.

As many as 50 rounds were fired inside, police said. Some of the people in attendance jumped out of windows and sustained broken bones and lacerations. Several more shots were fired outside the home, police said.

“You have alcohol, you have underage people here, and you have guns,” Commander John Fisher said during a news conference. “That’s a deadly combination at any type of event, and the result is that it’s a tragedy.

“There was unnecessary death here, and gunshot victims that could have all been prevented.”

Police are processing evidence at as many as eight separate crime scenes over several blocks where the shooting occurred, according to The Associated Press.

There is no information on any suspects.
