Attorney General Chris Carr issued a statement Sunday night requesting the federal government investigate the case.

Arbery, 25, was killed by a white father and son who pursued him with guns in a pickup truck as he jogged through their neighborhood in Brunswick in February.

Greg and Travis McMichael were arrested on murder charges after video surfaced of the confrontation that left Arbery dead. The video went viral and sparked outrage across the nation.

"We are committed to a complete and transparent review of how the Ahmaud Arbery case was handled from the outset," Carr said. "The family, the community and the state of Georgia deserve answers, and we will work with others in law enforcement at the state and federal level to find those answers."

Carr said the request includes an investigation of the communications and discussions by and between the Office of the District Attorney of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit and the Office of the District Attorney of the Waycross Judicial Circuit related to the case.

Despite the fact that the shooting happened Feb. 23, no arrests were made in the case until last week.
