Dog killed after a man allegedly fired multiple gunshots into a Virginia house on Christmas

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — A dog was killed after a man allegedly fired multiple gunshots into a house in Colonial Heights, Virginia, officials say.

Colonial Heights Police Department said in a news release that on Christmas around 5 p.m., officers were called out to a house in the 2100 block of Wakefield Avenue for a report of shots fired. Once officers arrived, they spoke with the victim, who told them that an acquaintance had come to the house and had allegedly attempted to force his way through the front door.

When the man could not get inside the house, he allegedly fired multiple gunshots into the front of the house, according to WWBT.

The victim and their dog were both reportedly hit by gunshots during the shooting, according to WWBT.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury, CHPD said. However, the dog died as a result of the shooting.

No other injuries or damage was reported, CHPD said.

The suspect is described as a “stocky” Black man who reportedly fled the area after the shooting, according to CHPD. He reportedly fled in a blue sport utility car.
