Indianapolis woman allegedly kills 2 people in two different crashes 3 weeks apart

INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman allegedly killed two people in two different crashes just three weeks apart, according to court records.

WXIN said Kelli Anderson, 55, was charged last Friday with one count of reckless homicide and six counts of criminal recklessness in a multi-vehicle crash that happened on June 9. Kiana Burns, 28, was killed in the crash.

According to court records obtained by WXIN, at around 4:50 p.m., Indianapolis police arrived on the scene of an eight-vehicle crash. One woman, later identified as Burns, had serious injuries.

WRTV said Burns died two days after the crash. She left behind four children.

Anderson allegedly told investigators that she was in the right-hand lane to turn and she had attempted to avoid hitting another car that had cut her off and veered off, according to court records obtained by WRTV. Anderson was allegedly driving about 69 miles per hour when she hit the first car. The speed limit in the area is 35 miles per hour. Anderson allegedly did not touch the brakes.

According to WRTV, Anderson also allegedly told investigators. that she was taking medications for epilepsy and allergies. She said she blacked out prior to the crash. At the scene, she had great difficulty completing the field sobriety tests, according to WRTV.

Anderson was allegedly involved in a crash three weeks earlier that killed Dr. Brian Dillman. That crash happened on May 19. According to WXIN, Anderson allegedly crossed the center line and hit Dr. Dillman, who was walking in the area. He later died from his injuries. She is not facing any charges.

Anderson was treated at the hospital and in court records obtained by WXIN, she was supposed to not drive for six months until she saw a neurologist who cleared her. However, her driving status was valid through the Indiana BMW.

In addition, WXIN said investigators revealed that Anderson was allegedly involved in five other crashes that she was at fault for, since 2019.
