COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. — Authorities are searching for a man accused of killing his brother’s ex-wife in exchange for a motorcycle and an undisclosed amount of money in 2017, according to court records and multiple reports.
In an indictment unsealed last week, federal prosecutors in Alabama said Jason Starr gave his brother, Darin Starr, a 2016 Triumph motorcycle and cash for the murder of Sara Starr, 36. Co-workers found the fourth-grade school teacher shot to death in her driveway in November 2017, WTVY reported.
Authorities arrested Jason Starr on a murder-for-hire charge in December, WDHN reported. Darin Starr, 56, remains at large. Officials with the FBI and Central Alabama CrimeStoppers are offering a total reward of $12,500 for information leading to Darin Starr’s arrest. Gov. Key Ivey’s office is also offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person or people responsible for Sara Starr’s death.
Jason Starr filed for divorce from Sara Starr in 2015, and the subsequent court proceedings were contentious, WTVY reported. A few days before Sara Starr’s death, court records obtained by WTVY showed that Jason Starr had been ordered to pay her $2,550 in spousal and child support. Sara Starr was mother to two sets of twins who were 12 and 7 at the time of her death, AL.com reported.
Authorities described Darin Starr as a 6-foot-4 man with brown hair and hazel eyes who weighs about 200 pounds. He has ties to San Antonio; Lakehills, Texas; Glendale, Arizona; and Colebrook, Connecticut.
Darin Starr is charged with one count of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire.
