According to the Mega Millions website, one ticket in Illinois matched the winning numbers for an estimated $1.337 billion. The winning numbers drawn Friday night were 13-36-45-57-67 with a gold Mega Ball of 14.

Update 10:45 a.m. EDT July 30: Lottery officials said the final value was $1.337 billion based on sales, higher than the original announced $1.28 billion. The winning ticket was bought at a Speedway gas station and convenience store in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines, according to the Illinois lottery website and The Associated Press. The winner can take the cash in an annuity or a lump sum of $780.5 million, according to a news release.

It was the largest jackpot in Illinois lottery history.

The Speedway will receive a $500,000 bonus for selling the ticket, lottery officials said during a news conference on Saturday.

Original report: It was the third largest jackpot in U.S. lottery history and snapped a three-month drought. Friday’s jackpot was the second-largest prize in the promotion’s 20-year history and it came with a cash value option of an estimated $747.2 million.

There had been 29 consecutive Mega Millions draws without a winner. The next drawing is Tuesday at 11 p.m. EDT, and the jackpot will reset to $20 million.

“Congratulations to the Illinois Lottery for selling the winning ticket for the $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot,” Ohio Lottery Director Pat McDonald, who is serving as lead director for the Mega Millions consortium, said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have witnessed one of the biggest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history. We’re eager to find out who won and look forward to congratulating the winner soon! Better still, this exciting jackpot run has had a significant positive impact on the revenues for good causes raised by our member lotteries.”

According to the Mega Millions website, 26 people matched five of the white balls to win $1 million. There were two winners in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, North Carolina and Texas. Other $1 million winners were in California, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Six of those winners -- three in Florida, and one in Arizona, Iowa and Pennsylvania -- played the Megaplier option and won $2 million apiece when the Megaplier was 2X.

The last time someone won the Mega Millions jackpot was on April 15, when a ticket in Tennessee was worth $20 million. The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot is 1 in 302,575,350. Mega Million drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot winner to date came in the Oct. 23, 2018, drawing, when a ticket in South Carolina was worth $1.537 billion. A $1.050 billion ticket was sold in Michigan on Jan. 22, 2021, lottery officials said. The overall record is a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot that was won on Jan. 13, 2016. That prize was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee.

Mega Millions can be played in 45 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
