New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival rescheduled for April 2022 amid COVID-19 surge

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has been canceled for fall 2021 and rescheduled for spring 2022, festival organizers confirmed via social media on Sunday.

“As a result of the current exponential growth of new COVID cases in the New Orleans and the region and the ongoing public health emergency, we must sadly announce that the 2021 edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell, scheduled to take place October 8 -17, 2021, will not occur as planned,” festival organizers said in a prepared statement.

The festival, which typically spans two full spring weekends in the Big Easy, was rescheduled in January for October amid an earlier wave of COVID-19 infections and restrictions JazzFest is now slated for April 29 through May 8, 2022.

“We now look forward to next spring, when we will present the Festival during its traditional timeframe,” the statement read.

People who already purchased tickets - including those who rolled over their tickets from the canceled 2020 edition of the festival - will receive an email this week about how to get a refund or roll over tickets for the future dates, Variety reported.

“In the meantime, we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials, so that we can all soon experience together the joy that is Jazz Fest,” the festival organizers’ statement concluded.

According to NOLA.com, all Wednesday, Oct. 13 ticket holders will receive automatic refunds.

The Rolling Stones had been scheduled to perform Oct. 13. It was not immediately clear if the remaining lineup that included Dead & Company, Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Buffett, Lizzo, Demi Lovato and others will remain signed on for the spring festival, Variety reported.
