Jones made Short a “special deputy” as the latest community effort to support Short and her family. That included the Sheriff’s Office dressing a white horse as a unicorn to surprise her earlier this month.
Short has stage 4 brain cancer and began chemotherapy treatments last week. Her form of the disease has no known cure, her family has said.
