Global color authority Pantone, which reveals its choice for top color for the following year every December, announced that Viva Magenta will be the color to lead all the others into 2023.

“An unconventional shade for an unconventional time: a new vision,” Pantone tweeted on Thursday.

“Welcome to the Magentaverse,” Pantone announced on its website, officially labeling the color Viva Magenta 18-750.

In a statement, Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director, said that “in this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real.”

“Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known,” Eiseman said. “Rooted in the primordial, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, Pantone 18-1750 Viva Magenta galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”

This is the 23rd year that the Pantone Color Institute has selected an annual color, Time reported.

On its website, Pantone called Viva Magenta “brave and fearless,” a “pulsating color whose exuberance promotes optimism and joy.”

“Powerful and empowering, it is an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint; an electrifying, boundaryless shade.”

According to CNN, the Pantone Color Institute’s choice is intended to reflect the latest trends, including fashion, beauty, technology, design and home decor.

Pantone’s 2022 Color of the Year was Very Peri.
