‘You guys saved my life’: Britney Spears speaks after conservatorship ends

Britney Spears is thanking fans and members of the #FreeBritney movement, telling them that they saved her life.

In a post on Instagram, Spears told her followers, “The #FreeBritney movement — you guys rock. Honestly, my voice was muted and threatened for so long, and I wasn’t able to speak up or say anything ... I honestly think you guys saved my life, in a way. 100%,” CNN reported.

Spears, 39, said she was under the conservatorship held by her father for 13 years.

The conservatorship was ended on Nov. 12, People magazine reported.

She said she can now be independent and feel like a woman.

Spears said in the nearly two-minute clip that she can have her own ATM card and have cash for the first time.

Jamie Spears had full control of her $60 million estate in 2008 after the singer had personal issues that were exposed in the public and online.

She testified in court that she was required to be on birth control and lithium medication. She was also forced to perform with little control over her professional and personal life, CNN reported.

While Britney Spears will no longer be under conservatorship, she will be in a care plan, according to Jodi Montgomery, the singer’s other former conservator. It will be a plan put together by Montgomery, Britney Spears and the entertainer’s medical team to help her adjust to life after conservatorship, People magazine reported.
