JFRD: 4 injured, 3 in serious condition after morning crash on Jacksonville’s Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that it responded to a multiple vehicle crash early Monday that closed West Beaver Street.

Capt. Eric Prosswimmer, spokesperson for JFRD, told Action News Jax that the incident occurred at Beaver Street and Oscar Road and was a result of two separate crashes. However, it is believed each had to do with the fog causing low visibility.

The first crash happened when a driver hit a deer early Monday morning. The driver was forced to stop, and a second vehicle tried to move around him. The second crash occurred when the driver trying to move around the disabled car hit oncoming traffic head-on.

JFRD reported that four people were injured and three were in serious condition. After a long extradition, the three seriously injured individuals were transported to a new critical care facility for treatment. The other injured individual was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

When asked about the cleanup, Proswimmer told Action News Jax that the road would remain closed for some time and that there was no estimated opening time yet.

Action News Jax’s Princess Jhané Stepherson is at the scene working to learn more.
