JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On or after Nov. 4 the National Weather Service will implement the consolidation and/or reformatting of Flood Watches, Warnings, and Advisories.
This is driven from the “Hazard Simplification Program.” The goal is to reduce the number of products and simplify them in an effort to cause less confusion.
Our community is prone to coastal, inland and river flooding. The multiple versions of flood advisories, watches and warnings may be difficult to understand.
An example is to change Flash Flood Watch & Flood Watch just into “Flood Watch.”
However *Flash Flood Watches will still be issued for: Possibility of flash flooding due to non-convective causes (dam or levee failure, ice jam), and flash flooding and debris flow caused by excessive rainfall on burn scars or in debris flow -- and landslide prone areas.
In addition, instead of Small Stream Advisory it will be more direct as a “Flood Advisory” for the affected area.
Above shows the Flood Product Examples (Current vs. Consolidated/Reformatted). Notice that it is now written into What, Where, When, Impacts and Additional Details.
