The 5 best sister movies to binge-watch on National Sisters Day

National Sisters Day falls on Sunday this year, giving us all a chance to appreciate our oldest pals: the ones who support us, annoy us and steal our clothes without permission.

Whether you're looking to laugh, cry or sing along, we have five movie recommendations available for rent or streaming that are the perfect way to celebrate the day. Bonus points if you watch with your actual sister.

If you're a big 'SNL' fan: 'Sisters'

America's favorite duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reunite for a raunchy comedy about two sisters who do what any fully grown adults would do after finding out their parents are selling their childhood home: throw one last rager of a house party. Fun cameos are abundant: Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Bobby Moynihan, Rachel Dratch, Samantha Bee, Santino Fontana, James Brolin and Dianne Wiest show up, to name just a few.

If you and your sister are hard-core Elvis fans: 'Lilo & Stitch'

Hawaii! Elvis! Aliens! What doesn't this movie have? "Lilo & Stitch" may star a little girl and her pet alien, but the storyline between Lilo and her older sister Nani will surprise you with its rawness and sincerity as the two navigate living on their own after the death of their parents. Good thing there's plenty of comic relief (like when Stitch substitutes himself for a record player and spews music from his open mouth) to help you keep the tears at bay.

If your 'sisterhood' is by choice: 'Step Sisters'

This 2018 Netflix original film takes on a different kind of sisterhood: sorority sisters. It follows college student Jamilah (Megalyn Echikunwoke), the president of a black sorority and captain of the school's step team, who is forced to teach party-obsessed girls from a predominantly white sorority how to step-dance. It's a fun story about friendship, colliding cultures and stepping out of your comfort zone – pun very much intended.

If you're in the mood for a singalong: 'Frozen'

Who says true love needs to come from a Prince Charming? The 2013 Disney sensation follows sisters Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel), who learn that the relationship between family members is just as important as a love story. It's a detailed, complex portrayal of the expectations, stress and unwavering support between two sisters with polar opposite personalities and points of view. Disney doesn't often favor familial relationships over romantic ones – save for 'Lilo and Stitch' – but this one reminds us that the bond between sisters is one worth preserving.

If you think your sister is nice to you: 'The Hunger Games'

It's a trilogy famous for its love triangle, yes, but at the core, "The Hunger Games" is about the lengths to which we'd go to protect our family. When Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) younger sister Prim (Willow Shields) is chosen to participate in a televised fight to the death, Kat decides to take her place. (Meanwhile, I can't even get my sister to split the last slice of pizza with me.) Katniss also plays an older sister-type role to Rue (Amandla Stenberg), the youngest Hunger Games contestant in desperate need of support. Both are a strong embodiment of what it means to be a protective older sister who would literally die to save her younger sibling.
