Facebook Encouraging Support for Black-Owned Businesses During Black History Month

During Black History Month, Facebook is encouraging you to shop at Black-owned businesses.

It is an extension of its #BuyBlack Friday initiative from this past holiday season. 

The effort was launched by Jacksonville native and Facebook employee Rachael Hawk.  Hawk used to work at Action News Jax.

Hawk spearheaded the #BuyBlack initiative in response to Black businesses being hit especially hard during the pandemic.

A Stanford University study found 41% of Black-owned businesses closed since last Spring compared to White-owned businesses.
