Social distancing at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind

Jacksonville, FL. — Teachers’ first day back in the classroom was Aug. 17.

Students will go back to school August 31st.

About one- third students will be virtually learning.

Students who chose to learn virtually will use Google and Microsoft Teams.

Teachers will be teaching those at home and those in class synchronously.

They use a program that will read screens out loud for blind students who can’t see screen sharing.

Clear masks and desk shields were ordered for classrooms where deaf or hard of hearing individuals need to see mouths move to understand what’s being said.

Signage across campus isn’t just written out. It’s also will be said out loud with technology, public service announcements and with staff members around campus for those who can’t see.
