The Florida Department of Health sent a notice to Jacksonville parents and guardians on Friday, notifying them that a child attended school on Jan. 27 while sick with hepatitis A.
The child attended S.P. Livingston Elementary School while sick, the DOH said in a letter to parents. The precautions taken by the DOH include:
- Immediate notification to school leaders and the families of children who shared a classroom with the affected student
- A thorough review of the child’s surrounding and additional classmates who may have had close contact
- Coordination with identified families to provide vaccinations

The DOH said hepatitis A is a contagious illness that can cause abdominal pain, low-grade fever, nausea, vomiting and yellow skin or eyes.
The disease is spread by person-to-person contact with objects, food or drink contaminated with feces, DOH said.
Vaccinations will be provided at S.P. Livingston on Wednesday.
