Hundreds arrested, fined in Daytona Beach during spring break

Hundreds of people were arrested or fined in Daytona Beach over spring break, according to new numbers released Monday morning.
 
Police and the Florida Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco were prepared for spring break parties on Seabreeze. Daytona Beach saw its largest turnout in more than 10 years.
 
Police said more than 400 spring breakers were arrested for carrying fake IDs or underage drinking.
 
Officials believe that the reason for the increase was the crackdown on spring break in Panama City. Officials said they were expecting the increase after Panama City banned drinking on the beach.  
 
"If everybody behaves, it's a good thing. When you start getting destruction, when you have sexual assault, when you start getting beatdowns on the street, when you have drunkfest on the beach and violence, then it's not a good thing," Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said.
