“I worry a lot,” said Margarita Marquez, a neighbor and mother we interviewed near the scene of the shooting. “I know, I know we all do.”

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told Action News Jax reporter Ryan Nelson they were called to Benbow Street near Westbrook Park for reports of gunfire around 10:30 a.m. When they arrived, two victims were found on the porch of a house near the park. One of the victims is a boy in his late teens, and the other is a young man.

“We walked down, and I saw the young man on the stretcher. His chest was open. He was to the side. It looked like he was trying to speak,” said Marquez.

Both suffered gunshot wounds, and both were injured in the upper body. Police tell us they were taken to a local hospital.

Police tell us they spent the late morning and early afternoon searching for shell casings and collecting witness statements.

Neighbors nearby tell us they want change.

“I have a cousin that’s been killed, you know?” said Marquez. “Two nephews. It’s sad and I just wish it would stop. I just wish we could all just live together.”

Witnesses told police they heard somewhere between 10-14 gunshots, and officers say they have yet to recover a weapon.

They’re investigating what happened in the moments before the shooting and tell us no suspects have been identified at this point in the investigation. They’re asking anyone with information to come forward.
