The Department of Children and Families gave "Young Kids in Motion Learning Academy" on Smith St. two class 2 violations during its latest inspection. A class 2 violation could pose a threat to the health or safety of a child, according to DCF standards.
One of those class 2 violations was for missing background screening paperwork for staff. The other was for having only one staff member for every seven children. The state requires a one to four ratio. The report states that was corrected at the time of inspection.
Action News Jax's Letisha Bereola went to the facility to see if the staff wanted to address the violations. A staff member had no comment. The director sent a statement to Action News Jax and said the staffing issue was a misunderstanding, and for the ratio problem, Latisha Nash, wrote in part:
"An infant was unexpectedly dropped off which put my worker out of ratio until the next staff member came in."
C.U.C.I.O.M Little Disciples on N. Laura st. received one class 2 violation and two class 3 violations. A class 3 violation poses a low potential for harm to children, according to DCF standards.
DCF officials says the class 2 violation was because supervision of children in the 2-5 year-old group was inadequate. The day care sent Action News Jax a statement that reads in part:
"It's disconcerting that our counselor would mark us for lack of supervision. Our employee was a step away with children within eye sight,” -- Ms. Williams, Director
Episcopal Children's Services Northside Early Head Start had a clean report. Action News Jax checked its inspection history and the last three reports were clean.
“It takes a lot of work…Team effort, definitely,” said Davetta Williams.
