2 dead, 2 hurt in major crash on I-95 north near Yulee: FHP

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a woman died in a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 95 in Nassau County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

All northbound lanes of traffic were shut down at mile marker 378, which is near the Florida Welcome Center.

FHP said an 81-year-old man and and 85-year-old woman from Yulee were killed in the crash.

The man and woman were traveling in the center lane in a gold Ford sedan. A white GMC SUV was traveling in the left lane.

FHP said “for reasons still under investigation” the gold car made “an abrupt lane change to the left” and struck the right front of the GMC SUV.

The gold car rotated and struck the guardrail in the median, FHP said.

The man driving the gold car was pronounced dead at the scene and the occupants of the GMC SUV, a 77-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man from Dunnellon, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, FHP said.

All lanes of traffic were reopened as of 12:30 p.m.
