16-year-old Jacksonville student killed outside home identified

A 16-year-old Atlantic Coast High School student has been identified as the teenager murdered last week.

Officers in Jacksonville are looking for the person responsible for killing that teenager. It happened outside of an apartment complex on Old Baymeadows Road last Thursday.

Friends of the teen told Action News Jax that Xavian Davis was gunned down right outside his home. That’s why on Monday, students at his school wore red to show their sorrow for his murder.

Students like Caroline Nunes who shared class with Davis said since the incident happened, school has not been the same.

“We were part of the same classroom in the same environment so we kind of shared the same ideas, we had history class together,” Nunes said.

Nunes is a sophomore at Atlantic Coast High School. She said their entire class was horrified when they heard Davis was killed.

“I was so scared because I saw him the same week at school and we talked. I was like how the heck, why is he dead?' I really don’t understand. It’s sad,” Nunes said.

Police said it happened outside the Baymeadows apartments on Thursday evening around 8:00 p.m. When they arrived, Davis was being taken to the hospital where he later died. Since that day, Nunes said her classmates have had a tough time coping with the news.

“Friday, which was the day after he died, in eighth period, everyone was really sad. His friends like the table he sits at with everyone, they didn’t really talk about it but they were sad,” Nunes said.

School officials alerted parents about the situation which sparked an important conversation in Nunes’ home about gun violence.

“I don’t know about everyone’s parents, but mines at least had a talk with me about it because we were part of the same classroom.

Now all the students have are the memories 16-year-old Davis leaves behind.

“He was a great person and he made everyone laugh and I think that’s what I’m going to miss the most,” Nunes said.

Davis is the second 16-year-old to be killed within the last month. Action News Jax is still working to figure out what led up to this shooting, and police said his killer has not been found.
