19-year-old arrested after attacking security guard with gun at St. Johns County subdivision

A 19-year-old was arrested after police said he attacked a security guard with a deadly weapon at a St. Johns County subdivision.

Deputies were called to Sea Colony Parkway on Sunday after a 911 caller said a security guard was being attacked inside the office.

The caller said the man, later identified as Jake Dewerth of St. Augustine Beach, may have had a rifle.

Officers found the office empty with signs that a violent crime had occurred.

The 46-year-old security guard approached officers and had signs of significant trauma to his face, officers said.

He was taken to Flagler Hospital.

Officers set up a perimeter and searched the area.

They found Dewerth, who matched witness descriptions of the suspect in the security office attack, police said.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and more charges are likely, officers said.
