A chef's 9/11 promise: He won't stop until he's cooked for every fire station in the Sunshine State

Seventeen years after Sept. 11, one man is sticking to his promise to cook for every fire station in the state of Florida in honor of his late friend and the 343 firefighters who died that day.

Over the years, chef Rob Scambia has cooked for over 400 fire stations in the state of Florida, he’s now making his rounds in Duval County.

Scambia says the 9/11 attacks left him, like so many Americans filled with grief and anger.  “I feel angry, angry that, that could happen. I had to do something, and this is the only thing I know."

Scambia did what he knew best, cooking, promising to cook for every fire station in the state of Florida.

At a firehouse, there are three shifts, A, B, and C. Scambia cooks for every shift.

Dinner at Jacksonville Fire Station 21 was a four-course meal, complete with several desserts, and the firemen help out in the kitchen too.

Slowly, he has checked off several Florida counties. Scambia lives in Clermont, Florida, and travels hours almost weekly to cook in Duval County.

He is treated just like one of the firefighters, sleeping at the station, then up bright and early to make breakfast.

He also has a cookbook filled with his recipes which was presented to him by firefighters in Orange County. The proceeds go to the Orange County Firefighters Benevolent Fund.

JFRD says they are working on creating a second cookbook for Scambia.
