An Action News Jax crew joined local pilots Friday to fly supplies to the Bahamas. Many people there need help following the devastation of Hurricane Dorian.
That crew brought 1,500 pounds of food, air mattresses, diapers, medical supplies and more.
Scott Van Fleet, a retired Navy pilot, captained the PC-12 plane. He said he wanted to give back to those who need it the most.
“We’ve just watched the Bahamas and Abaco Islands and Marsh Harbor -- where we fly to once a week -- just get wrecked, and we feel helpless for them,” Van Fleet said. “And it’s good to be able to bring something in.”
First, Van Fleet of Boomerang Air Charter flew our crew to Sanford to gather more supplies and fuel up.

Before 8 p.m. Friday night, our crew touched down in North Eleuthera to drop off the items. That island is southeast of Abaco, which was devastated by Hurricane Dorian.
Van Fleet said this is the first trip of many.
“We’re just going to keep gathering supplies and fly them over here for as long as we can,” Van Fleet said.
Northeast Florida Regional Airport is taking donations.
