JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm. Many families were left with nothing and need our help. One way you can help these families is by supporting the Action News Jax Convoy of Care.

Action News Jax and our news partner 104.5 WOKV will be collecting donations for the Bahamas.

You can drop off your donations on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the roundabout outside Maggiano's at the St. Johns Town Center.

On Monday, Bleu Chocolat Café in Springfield is hosting a dinner benefit for Bahamas disaster relief.

Both of the owners have strong ties to the Bahamas and have first hand experience with a hurricane.

Both lost their entire restaurant in the Virgin Islands during Irma. Janelle Ford is from Nassau originally and still has family living in the Bahamas.

The First Coast YMCA is partnering with the American Red Cross to help those impacted by Hurricane Dorian.

The two organizations are asking for donations so they can help provide food, shelter, supplies and other items Hurricane victims need.

A pilot and missionary for Adventures in God's Creation, Jimbo Stockton, said the work of restoring life in the Bahamas to what it was before will be daunting.

"We've been doing this for years," said Stockton. "Except this one's different."

Stockton's coordinating volunteers and supplies to make their way to the Bahamas to help those in need after Hurricane Dorian.

He says he kept getting messages on social media, asking how to help. In turn, the group coordinated an early evening meeting in Jacksonville Beach.

Jacksonville is stepping up to help our neighbors in the Bahamas.

All day Friday people donated much needed supplies to Hurricane Dorian relief efforts throughout the city.

One of the relief drives was at Coop 303 in Atlantic Beach.
