Authorities say two Atlanta kidnappings may be connected

ATLANTA — Police believe the people responsible for two murders may have kidnapped a woman from a parking lot. Channel 2’s Jessica Jaglois spoke to a witness who says she saw the whole thing, though the suspects never saw her.

Sarah Jones said she was sitting in her car early Thursday morning as a young woman accidently backed into another car.

She went to back up and correct and did not even get all the way corrected when a man approached her.

The witness -- who wants to be identified as “Sarah” for safety purposes, said the man was wearing a badge, had a gun and handcuffs.

“I thought they were police,” she said. “The guy opened her door, took her out but immediately handcuffed her.”

The man put the handcuffed woman in the back of a black Cadillac Escalade while another man got into the victim's car, according to the witness.

“By the time we realized something was wrong, it was done. It was so fast,” she said.

Atlanta police believe this kidnapping was random and there are many similarities to the murder of Jeronta Brown and Briana Brooks.

Both victims were kidnapped and later found handcuffed and shot in the head.

The victim in the parking lot kidnapping was located 18 hours after she disappeared, unharmed but just like the murdered couple's case, police say the suspects demanded ransom money.

“I'm kind of scared now because they're coming in saying they're FBI people and they're not,” said Jeronta Browns’s mother, Kawana Brown.

Kawana Brown said her son's kidnappers called several times with ransom demands before killing him. Police said the suspects in Thursday's kidnapping made similar demands. There is no motive yet but police don't believe the kidnappings are random, rather the victims were targeted for some reason.

"We do not think that we have a kidnapping crew just randomly going around and snatching people off the road," Guerrucci said.

Brown's stepfather said he thinks a large disability settlement he recently received and spent, is a possible reason this happened. In the meantime, he said he's wary of anyone who comes to the door.

Brown's family and friends are making a big push for leads in their case. They said they have raised $15,000 in reward money. They said that money is for information leading to an arrest in the killings.
