Brunswick prepares for filming of Black Panther sequel

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — One of the most highly anticipated superhero movies is being filmed in our backyard.

Black Panther 2 is coming to Brunswick with filming set to take place at Mary Ross Waterfront Park on Bay Street.

The park closed is scheduled to close Friday, October 22nd until November 8th.

Very little detail was given as to why this park was picked as a location, but the city of Brunswick did tell us that film crews needed access to water and ships.

Action News Jax learned the announcement is causing some excitement.

“For Brunswick to be the location for Black Banther, a huge Marvel hit that just means a lot about this area,” Christopher Foster said.

City commissioners announced the agreement between the city and the production company during a meeting on Wednesday.

City manager Regina McDuffie said she and her family are big fans.

“Oh yes… Oh my gosh. I saw it I think maybe five times,” McDuffie said.

She said the city will receive an incentive of $15,000 to film the movie in the park. And if the production company runs over its contract, it’ll be an additional $1,000 dollars a day.

Pete Gosden works in Brunswick. He told us the Walking Dead, Anchorman 2, and Live by Night were all filmed nearby.

“Glynn County has had its fair share of movies in the past. I think it would be a good thing to have more films down here bringing revenue in for businesses and so forth,” Gosden said.

Foster told Action News Jax he’ll be first in line when the movie comes out.

“I’m going to make sure I take three of my best friends with me so I can say hey I was right there and actually I got interviewed by CBS 47 FOX 30,” Foster said.

The city of Brunswick said film crews are looking for extras to be in the movie.

You must be willing to be tested for COVID-19 and be available between October 30th to November 2nd.
