JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A charter school in Jacksonville will continue to operate as normal after its management company was indicted.
San Jose Academy and Prep school in Jacksonville is being managed by a company that is being indicted for money laundering, grand theft and aggravated white-collar crime.
Action News Jax reported Wednesday the concerns surrounding the future of San Jose Prep.
The board met Thursday evening to talk about Escambia County indictments for San Jose Academy and Prep's management company, Newpoint Education Partners.
The company’s corporate said Newpoint will continue business as usual, supporting the school under its existing agreement. It then decided to assign two members to research a Plan B, looking into alternatives such as self-managing or another company altogether.
Two teachers told Action News Jax they were informed a month ago to start looking for another job.
“They have not been instructed to do that,” said Director Amy Printy. “I have been very open that I fully expect that we will have the resolution we are looking for, that will be positive and we will be here next year.”
A parent and grandparent of a student said they trust the board and feel confident in them after hearing their decisions to move forward.
