CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Clay County junior high teacher has been charged with several felonies, including armed burglary.
Jason Lipsitz, a 36-year-old middle school teacher, was arrested Monday night.
The Sheriff’s Office said Lipsitz got into an argument with his ex-girlfriend Erin Offord because she had a friend over.
Lipsitz allegedly grabbed a gun from Offord’s van during their argument.
“I heard him say you shouldn’t have left your van unlocked. I got your gun,” Offord said.
Offord said it was Monday night when Lipsitz stopped by her home.
“He tried to push his way in the door with me,” Offord said.
The Sheriff’s Office said Lipsitz was locked out. They said he walked around the home trying different ways to get in.
“I have a pet door, and he put his head in the pet door as far as he could,” Offord said.
Police said Lipsitz never got inside the home and eventually left. He was later arrested by deputies.
Lipsitz works at Lake Asbury Junior High. The school's website lists him as a language arts teacher.
A representative for Clay County Public Schools said Lipsitz is now out of the classroom and away from students. Further action could be taken following the outcome of an investigation.
Offord said the scariest part was that her son was also inside the home at the time.
“Don’t underestimate anybody because the people that you think are the nicest, calmest people can snap,” Offord said.
She said she's just thankful no one was hurt.
